As the Edo State Gubernatorial election approaches, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday to publish Prince Yusuf Kadiri’s name as the Labour Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate for the upcoming election.
On Thursday, June 27, 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/556/2024 involving the Labour Party and others against INEC, the court confirmed Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Labour Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election set for September 21, 2024.
In delivering the judgment, the judge stated that the nomination process for Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Deputy Governorship candidate “over-complied” with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and subsidiary Guidelines, and the Constitution of the Labour Party.
The court subsequently ordered INEC to accept and process the substitution of Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Labour Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate and publish his name on the list of candidates.
