The Bauchi State Police Command has reported the arrest of Mamuda Abubakar for allegedly chaining his 6-year-old son inside a room at their home in Giade Local Government Area.
According to SP Ahmed Mohammed, spokesperson for the command, they received a report of child abuse on July 7, 2024. Upon investigation, it was found that Mamuda Abubakar, residing in Abbo, Chinkani Ward, had chained his son, Adamu Mamuda alias Jumba, the previous day at around 5:20 PM.
Police detectives swiftly responded to the scene and rescued the child. It was revealed during the investigation that Mamuda Abubakar had separated from the child’s mother five years ago.
He reportedly restrained his son to prevent him from visiting his maternal grandfather’s house, citing concerns about the environment there. Despite his instructions, when the child insisted on visiting, Mamuda Abubakar resorted to chaining him out of anger.
Mamuda Abubakar has been detained pending further investigation at the Bauchi State Criminal Investigation Department.
The Bauchi State Police Command emphasized its commitment to safeguarding all citizens, especially vulnerable children, and encouraged the public to promptly report any cases of abuse or mistreatment to the nearest police station.
