Gunmen shot and killed an elderly couple and another person in Ikpele community, located in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a resident who wished to remain anonymous, the attack occurred over the weekend when the gunmen entered the community. Many others were reportedly injured during the incident, but local residents are unsure who was responsible.
“It’s becoming difficult to identify the killers. Sometimes, the attack could be propelled by the communities involved in land or chieftaincy tussles, while at other times, it could be a direct assault from armed herders,” the source told Punch newspaper.
Godwin Edoh, a member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Agatu State Constituency, confirmed the killings and expressed deep concern about the ongoing violence in the area.
He said: “A husband and wife who are advanced in age were killed inside their house during the attack.”
