Oladip Oshodi, 48, of Dagenham, East London, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 5 July 2024.
He faced charges including two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm, and controlling coercive behavior.
Oshodi was arrested on 12 July 2023, by detectives from the Met’s East Area Public Protection Unit and remained in custody throughout the legal proceedings. He was convicted on 10 May this year.
The court heard that on the evening of 11 July 2023, Oshodi assaulted a woman known to him at his home in the Mayesbrook area of Dagenham, despite her clear refusal of his sexual advances. He raped her twice and subjected her to physical violence, causing her to escape by jumping from a ground-floor window onto the street, where concerned passersby alerted the police.
The victim was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment and received support from specialized officers.
Detective Constable Serena McGhee commented, “Oshodi is a dangerous individual, and it is fitting that he will spend a lengthy sentence behind bars where he cannot harm women. I commend the bravery of the victim and witnesses involved in this case. Oshodi displayed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial, and I am glad that he has been held accountable for his actions.”
PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer for sexual offenses, added, “The survivor in this case was in fear for her life when she made the desperate decision to escape. I hope that the sentence handed down encourages other women who have experienced sexual offenses to come forward. We are here to support you and ensure your safety every step of the way.”
