Brazilian Goalkeeper Injured by Police Rubber Bullet During Youth Match Sparks Outrage and Investigation

A Brazilian goalkeeper was struck by a rubber bullet fired by a police officer during a youth team match, sparking outrage and an investigation by authorities.

The incident occurred during a match between Gremio Anapolis and Centro Oeste, which Centro Oeste won 2-1. Following a scuffle after the match, a police officer was seen firing a rubber bullet at Gremio Anapolis goalkeeper Ramon Souza. Souza was visibly injured, limping away from the scene and receiving treatment from his club for a leg wound.

In response, Gremio Anapolis condemned the incident as a “criminal act” and pledged to ensure the responsible officer faces consequences. They expressed shock and disbelief at the violence, emphasizing the officer’s duty to protect rather than harm those present at Jonas Duarte Stadium on July 10th.

The club documented Souza’s injuries with photos showing him being attended to by medical staff on the field, including the club’s doctor, Dr. Diego Bento. Images depicted Souza with a bandaged leg, receiving medical aid and visibly in pain. The severity of the incident prompted the club to take immediate action, sharing images of the impact of the rubber bullet and calling for justice.

The Military Police of the State of Goias acknowledged the incident and initiated an investigation, stating their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability among their ranks.
