A Lagos landlord has faced criticism after allegedly refusing to rent out a property to a single woman.

According to reports shared by a social media user with the handle @@niggazoid on X (formerly Twitter), the landlord imposed discriminatory conditions, such as requiring a male guarantor.

A full adult woman that you don’t know what she does or what she has. Downgraded her to someone you cannot discuss simple contract details with. Say na she cannot afford the rent, 😂.

I suffered same discrimination in more than 4 cities I had rented apartments before I left Naija, however, this is more prevalent among single ladies. That is, the discrimination is more against single ladies than single men.

It is a gender thing, cause it affects women more. Because some men go through the same problem doesn’t mean that it doesn’t affect women predominantly.
