Russia Threatens Europe Over US Missile Deployment

Tensions between Russia and the West have escalated further after Moscow issued a stark threat to European capitals over the planned deployment of long-range US missiles in the region.

The Kremlin, in a statement released on Saturday, warned that European cities could become targets if the US and Germany proceed with their plans to station these missiles in Europe by 2026.

President Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, while affirming Russia’s capacity to counter the missile deployment, emphasized the potential grave consequences for European nations.

“We have enough potential to deter these missiles. But the capitals of these (European) states are potential victims,” Peskov said.

The US and Germany announced the missile deployment plan at the recent NATO summit as a demonstration of their commitment to European defense amid Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

This development comes as NATO also declared a new US air defense base in Poland operational. The base is designed to intercept missile attacks.

Russia has consistently accused NATO of seeking to encircle and destabilize the country. The Kremlin has vowed to take countermeasures against the planned missile deployment, which it views as a direct threat to its national security.

As the standoff deepens, fears of a potential conflict in Europe are growing, with analysts expressing grave concern over the escalating rhetoric and military build-up in the region.
