Video: Evra Responds to Suspended 12-Month Sentence

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has sparked controversy after posting a bizarre video on social media seemingly mocking a recent court ruling against him.

The French football legend was handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence for abandoning his wife and two children while failing to pay approximately NGN 616,640,000 (€969,000) in alimony.

The court found Evra guilty of neglecting his family between May 1, 2021, and September 28, 2023. Despite the suspended sentence, he was ordered to pay his estranged wife, Sandra Evra, NGN 267,000 (€4,000) for emotional distress and NGN 133,500 (€2,000) in legal fees.

Evra’s lawyer has indicated that an appeal is underway, claiming that the former footballer provided substantial financial support to his wife. However, the recent video, showing Evra in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit, has drawn widespread criticism.

The video, captioned: “Let me shutdown this rubbish news. Look how much I enjoyed myself in prison,” depicts Evra dancing and laughing in what appears to be a mock prison setting.

His actions have been met with mixed reactions, with some fans expressing disappointment in his behavior.
