NDLEA Busts Drug Smuggling Rings, Seizes Cocaine, Opioids, Laughing Gas in Lagos

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have foiled attempts to smuggle cocaine, opioids, and cannabis to the United States, United Kingdom, Cyprus, and Lagos.

In a series of coordinated operations, NDLEA officers intercepted various drug consignments hidden within shoes, clothes, and household items.

A significant haul of cocaine, weighing 250 grams, was discovered concealed in custom-made shoes bound for Cyprus. Additionally, over five kilograms of opioids destined for the US and UK were seized from parcels at courier firms in Lagos.

Meanwhile, a consignment of 440 grams of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain from Canada, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at a logistics company in Lagos.

In a separate operation in Edo State, NDLEA agents arrested Aminu Abdullahi, 32, with 3,000 tramadol pills hidden in custard containers. The suspect claimed to have purchased the drugs in Onitsha and was en route to Mararaba, Abuja.

Furthermore, a raid on a warehouse in VGC, Lekki, led to the seizure of 148 cartons of nitrous oxide, 108 cartons of fast gas cylinders, and other related items. Suliyat Abdulsalam was arrested in connection with the find.

As part of its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, the NDLEA has intensified sensitization efforts in schools, churches, and communities nationwide. The agency commended its officers for their dedication and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

The NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), expressed satisfaction with the agency’s achievements and reiterated its commitment to reducing drug supply and demand.
