Armed robbers invaded the Akwa Ibom State Newspaper Company, publishers of the Pioneer Newspaper, on Friday, killing a security guard identified as Mr. Edet Obot.
The attack occurred around 12 noon at the company’s premises on Information Drive in Uyo. The gunmen made off with a generator, televisions, and wire cables.
A source within the newspaper corporation, who requested anonymity, expressed sadness over the incident and raised suspicions of insider involvement.
“It’s a very sad development to all of us here, and most unfortunate is that the security officer who was shot dead by the criminals was not even a staff of a newspaper corporation, this cannot happen without an insider’s collaboration,” the source said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident, assuring that the police are investigating. “We are aware of it and on top of the situation,” he said.
