Republican Party Formally Announces Trump as Presidential Nominee in Wake of Assassination Attempt

Donald Trump has secured the Republican Party’s nomination for the upcoming U.S presidential election, shortly after surviving an attempt on his life.

At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the former president was formally anointed as the party’s candidate for the November 5 election. He also announced Ohio senator JD Vance as his running mate on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The announcement sparked jubilant scenes inside the convention hall, reaffirming Trump’s strong grip on the party. Meanwhile, there were demonstrations outside the venue opposing his candidacy.

The nomination follows a harrowing incident over the weekend when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at Trump during a campaign rally.

Trump was injured on the ear but has been the presumed nominee for months after securing a majority of convention delegates earlier in the year, defeating rivals such as South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

However, it wasn’t until Monday’s roll call that Trump officially became the party’s flagbearer after delegates cast their votes.
