Gombe Police Arrest Two Men for Alleged Homosexuality

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two men, Hassan Abubakar (25) and Jibrin Ibrahim (22), for allegedly engaging in homosexual acts. Abdullahi Buhari, spokesperson for the Command, paraded the suspects before reporters on Tuesday.

According to ASP Abdullahi, a fight between the men led to their arrest. The fight reportedly ensued after one of the men refused to pay the other N15,000 following anal sex, as allegedly agreed upon beforehand.

The police received a distress call from the ward head of the area on July 11th at 10:40pm. Officers from the Akko division responded to the scene and apprehended the suspects.

ASP Abdullahi further stated that the aggrieved suspect snatched his partner’s phone after being denied payment. This resulted in a violent confrontation involving machetes, which attracted the attention of nearby residents.

“During the investigation,” ASP Abdullahi said, “one of the suspects, Jibrin Ibrahim, confessed that Hassan Abubakar had promised him N15,000 after they finished having sex.”

The suspects were treated at a hospital before being taken into police custody. They have reportedly confessed to the alleged crime.

The police spokesperson added that the accused will be arraigned in court after the ongoing investigation is complete.

Speaking with journalists, one of the suspects, Jibrin said he was introduced to homosexuality by Hassan.

He said: “I was arrested on Thursday when Hassan called me and asked me to go to his house. He said he wanted to have a canal knowledge of me and I agreed because he promised to give me N15,000 but he later denied it. So I seized his phone. In the process of trying to get his phone back, he hit me with a machete. That is how we were exposed.”
