Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has been ousted as Chief Whip by the Senate today, July 17. The decision, supported by the APC Senate Caucus during plenary and affirmed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio through a voice vote, saw Senator Tahir Monguno appointed in his place.
Earlier, the national leadership of the APC had urged Ndume to resign from the party and join any opposition party of his choice. This directive was communicated in a letter signed by the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru.
Ndume’s critical remarks about the Tinubu-led government had drawn criticism from the pro-Tinubu faction, including Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) and the APC, who denounced his statements as derogatory.
In recent interviews, Ndume alleged that President Tinubu is inaccessible and claimed that certain Ministers in the Tinubu administration lack direct access to the President.
