On Thursday, July 18, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the death of a 19-year-old man, Adeyemi, allegedly at the hands of his father, Olumide.
The Alagbado Police Division received the report on Tuesday, July 16. According to Hundeyin, on July 5th, Olumide inflicted a serious injury on Adeyemi’s right hand with a shovel “during moderate correction for an undisclosed offense.”
Adeyemi was initially treated at a hospital, but his condition worsened. He was transferred to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he died from a tetanus infection. The scene was investigated by detectives, and the case remains under investigation.
Hundeyin said: “At about 12.00 p.m. on July 5, at about 2.00 p.m., one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi a deep cut under moderate correction, at his right-hand side with a shovel over an undisclosed offence.”
He continued: “The young man was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment, but when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty.”
The father, Olumide, is currently at large.
“However, the father of the victim is currently at large and the case is under investigation,” he said.
