Cross River Assembly Demands Investigation into Missing NYSC Member, Dorcas Ojong

The Cross River House of Assembly is calling for a swift and thorough investigation into the disappearance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Dorcas Paul Ojong.

Ojong, a native of Akamkpa Local Government Area serving in Awka, Anambra State, has been missing since February 18, 2024.

On Thursday, July 18th, the Assembly passed a resolution urging the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Director-General of the NYSC to take immediate action. This resolution follows a motion brought forward by Mr. Okon Owuna, representing Akamkpa 1 constituency.

Mr. Owuna brought the issue to the Assembly’s attention, expressing concern about Ojong’s disappearance and the lack of information since February.

He said: “She attended the College of Health Technology, Calabar, and was posted to Anambra for the mandatory national youth service scheme.”

He stated that Ojong, a corps member from Batch A, Stream 2 of the 2023 program with NYSC ID AN/2023/4309, was due to finish her service in March.

He added: “She was last seen on Feb. 18 on her way to her place of primary assignment in Awka.

“Her disappearance has thrown her family into confusion, trauma and grief, the NYSC authority has failed to take steps to trace her whereabouts.”

Several lawmakers echoed concerns about the missing corps member during the debate. They urged for an immediate investigation.
