In a successful operation, Delta State Police rescued teenage girls trafficked for prostitution and arrested a suspect involved in their exploitation in Ughelli, Delta State.
Spokesperson SP Bright Edafe revealed the details in a press statement. Acting on a tip, police raided a hotel in Ughelli believed to be harboring the victims.
The investigation centered on a woman named Chinyere, who allegedly lured girls from eastern Nigeria with promises of waitressing jobs in Delta State.
Following a detailed investigation, police located one of the victims who described Chinyere’s deception. The victim, along with two others, were promised waitressing jobs but forced into prostitution upon arrival at the hotel in Ughelli.
“On 15/7/2024, acting on credible information received by the Command on the activities of one Chinyere (surname unknown) who specializes in trafficking women from the East and brings them to Ughelli Delta State for prostitution,” the statement read.
“Intelligence further revealed that she lures them by telling them that they are coming to Delta State to work as a sales girl in a restaurant.”
The raid on “Big Dafe Hotel” led to the arrest of 36 people, including the hotel operator, Chioma Edafe (36), and 23 teenagers suspected to be victims.
A search for the main suspect, Chinyere, is ongoing.
The statement added: “Serious manhunt for the main suspect, Chinyere is ongoing.

The Delta State Police Commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi, has zero tolerance for human trafficking and encourages anyone with information to contact local authorities or the provided command control room numbers.
