Ndume Breaks His Silence After Removal as Chief Whip

Senator Ali Ndume has addressed his recent removal as the Senate Chief Whip, claiming it was unwarranted despite his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of national issues.

Speaking from his Maiduguri home on Friday, July 19, Ndume also revealed his refusal of the Senate Committee on Tourism chairmanship, citing his lack of experience and exposure for such a critical role.

Reflecting on his removal, Ndume clarified that he never sought the Senate Chief Whip position, especially after serving as Senate Leader in the eighth assembly. He opted instead for a vice-chair role on a committee after supporting Godswill Akpabio’s election as Senate President.

Addressing calls for his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume emphasized his pivotal role in its formation, having been among the twenty-two senators who left the PDP for the APC. He noted the early involvement of Abdullahi Ganduje, now APC’s national chairman.

Ndume recalled his decision to join the APC after encouragement from former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, stating he consulted his constituents before making his membership public and would do the same before deciding on leaving the party.

The senator explained his delayed response to his removal, citing mourning for a family member.
