Arsenal are nearing the completion of their second summer transfer after reaching an agreement with Bologna for defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are set to pay a fee of €40 million (£33.7 million) with a potential €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons for the 22-year-old. The deal also includes a sell-on clause, with the final details to be determined between Bologna and Calafiori’s previous club Basel.
Calafiori, comfortable playing both center-back and left-back, has impressed with his versatility and defensive contributions.
He was a key part of Bologna’s squad that secured a historic Champions League qualification last season.
The Italian defender also earned five caps for his national team, including three appearances at Euro 2024 before a suspension ruled him out of the round of 16 defeat to Switzerland.
This move follows the permanent signing of goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford earlier this summer.
Calafiori’s arrival adds depth and tactical flexibility to Mikel Arteta’s defensive options, with his ability to play in multiple positions potentially proving to be a valuable asset for the North London club.
