American singer Sean Kingston, known for his hit song “Beautiful Girls,” and his mother, Janice Turner, are facing serious federal charges related to an alleged million-dollar fraud scheme.
A Miami Grand Jury indicted the pair on Friday, July 19th, on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors allege that Kingston and Turner devised a scheme to defraud businesses out of high-end goods, including luxury vehicles and jewelry.
The indictment details how Kingston and Turner allegedly obtained these items by falsely claiming to have completed wire transfers for payment. However, investigators discovered these payments never materialized. Despite this, Kingston and Turner reportedly held onto the fraudulently acquired goods, which included a $160,000 Cadillac Escalade and jewelry valued at $480,000.
U.S authorities estimate the total value of the fraudulent purchases to be over $1 million. Both Kingston and Turner were arrested in May after a raid on Kingston’s Florida residence.
If convicted on any of the six counts, Kingston and Turner could face significant prison sentences. Each count carries a possible maximum sentence of 20 years.
Sean Kingston’s lawyer, Robert Rosenblatt, has indicated they plan to fight the charges in court. He expressed confidence in achieving a positive outcome for his client.
