Nigeria’s D’Tigress Struggle in Pre-Olympic Friendly Loss to Serbia

Nigeria’s D’Tigress fell short in their second pre-Olympic friendly against Serbia on Sunday, July 21st, losing by an 8-point margin (70-62).

Coached by Rena Wakama, the team looked to bounce back from a previous 14-point defeat to Germany.

However, their comeback hopes were dashed early as Serbia took control. The D’Tigress trailed by 6 points (21-15) after the first quarter and Serbia continued to extend their lead in the second (39-29) and third quarters (55-45). Despite a strong push in the fourth quarter, D’Tigress couldn’t overcome the deficit.

This loss marks their second straight defeat in pre-Olympic friendlies. They will have one final chance to find their form before the Games against Japan on Wednesday, July 24th.

The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics will be the D’Tigress’ third appearance on the Olympic stage, following debuts in Athens 2004 and Tokyo 2020. However, they haven’t yet advanced beyond the group stage. The team will be looking to break that trend in Paris.
