The Delta State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of being involved in armed robbery and cult activities in Oghara Town, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesperson, the arrests were made following a directive from Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda to tackle rising incidents of cultism, kidnapping, and armed robbery in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas.
During an intelligence-led operation led by ASP Julius Robinson on July 18, 2024, the police raided three separate groups of suspected cultists and armed robbers in Oghara Town.
The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects: Ochuko Joel Ofoye, 35 years old, from Jeddo Community in Okpe LGA Delta State and a member of Juris Confraternity; Michael Anwul, 29 years old, from Alisimie Community Agbor, Ika South LGA Delta State, also affiliated with Juris Confraternity; Great Ojareri, 35 years old, from Oghareki Community in Ethiope West LGA Oghara Delta State, associated with Eiye Confraternity; Innocent Esefeta, 31 years old, from Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State, residing in Oghara Delta State, found in possession of a Beretta pistol; and Ogaga Ebuke, 27 years old, from Okpe Community in Orerokpe LGA Delta State, also linked to Juris Confraternity and found with a locally made pistol.
Items seized during the arrests included one pistol, two AK-47 magazines, one locally made cut-to-size gun, and 29 rounds of live ammunition. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
