Estranged Wife and Mother Accused of Killing Husband

An estranged wife and her mother have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and destruction of evidence in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at a campground in Idaho, United States.

Melissa Calumpit, 35, allegedly lured her estranged husband, 37-year-old Travis Calumpit, to Martin’s Landing campground on July 12th under the pretense of rekindling their romance. According to an arrest affidavit, she then shot him with a gun.

Police believe Melissa’s mother, Rosalie Lynn Morris, 59, played a role in the crime. The affidavit alleges Morris helped plan the murder and attempted to take the blame afterwards.

The motive for the killing is suspected to be domestic violence. Melissa reportedly told police she acted in self-defense after her husband allegedly raped her at the campground. However, investigators say her statements were inconsistent and she initially denied any involvement.

The arrest affidavit details how police found inconsistencies in Melissa’s story and obtained dashcam footage from the victim’s car that placed her at the scene. Melissa then changed her story, claiming self-defense.

Rosalie Morris allegedly admitted to planning the murder with her daughter and trying to take the blame. She claimed she wanted to kill Travis to protect her daughter from further abuse.

Both Melissa Calumpit and Rosalie Lynn Morris are being held on a $2 million bond.
