Brazil Women’s Football Team Eye Olympic Glory: Coach Expects Strong Start Against Nigeria

Brazil’s coach, Arthur Elias, is confident about his team’s chances at the 2024 Olympic Games women’s football tournament.

Their journey begins today, July 25th, against Nigeria at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux. Interestingly, this is Nigeria’s first Olympic appearance in 16 years, with their last match being a defeat to – you guessed it – Brazil. In fact, Brazil holds a perfect record against the African nation, winning both their previous encounters.

Beyond Nigeria, Brazil faces a tough group stage with current World Champions Spain and former champions Japan also vying for a spot in the knockout rounds.

Coach Elias, speaking to FIFA.com, emphasized the team’s strong commitment, talented players, and unified approach. He believes these factors are crucial for success in a challenging competition and looks forward to progressing past the group stage.

Elias told FIFA.com: “The commitment of the team is great. We have got an increasingly strong group of players, and we have a unity of thought.

“This is an important factor for the team to advance in such a difficult competition and also to win in the knockout phase.”
