Brutal Attack in Kogi State: Two Chinese Nationals Kidnapped, Five Security Officers Killed

In an alarming incident on Monday, July 22, suspected kidnappers attacked a mining site on the outskirts of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, resulting in the abduction of two Chinese nationals and the tragic deaths of five security officers.

The gunmen, estimated to be around 20 in number, raided the mining site in Zango City, where they killed five individuals comprising three vigilantes and two mining site staff.

According to local reports, the attack occurred in the evening around 5 pm and lasted approximately 45 minutes. Witnesses described the assailants initially firing shots into the air, causing panic among residents.

‘’Initially, we did not know what was happening, and the gunshots were loud,” said one local resident who fled the area due to the intense gunfire. “This is very bad and worrisome in the state capital. We urge the government to step up security in the state.”

As of now, the state police command has not issued any statement regarding the incident.
