A 17-year-old boy tragically lost his life due to electrocution while helping his stepfather at a construction site in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
The boy, whose name has not yet been confirmed, was assisting his stepfather, Moses Emmanuel, a welder, with welding work when he accidentally stepped on a live wire.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred while Emmanuel was working on a scaffold at a building on Church Street, Alagbado.
The boy’s mother reported the incident to the Alagbado Police Station, expressing her devastation over the loss.
Hundeyin explained: “The woman who was heartbroken claimed that the boy had followed her husband who is the deceased’s step father, a welder, to build a scaffolding in a building under construction on Church Street, Alagbado. She said that in the process, he stepped on a life wire that was carelessly connected from an electric pole and died on the spot.”
Emergency services were called, and the boy was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Detectives from the local division visited the scene, and the boy’s body has been removed. No signs of violence were observed at the scene. The stepfather has been detained for questioning, and an investigation is currently underway.
