Two students of the Kogi State University, Kabba (KSUK), have been kidnapped and a ransom of N50 million demanded for their release.
The victims, Joel Emmanuel Bamiyo and Isaac Babalola, both Public Administration students, were abducted last Friday at the same location where the Caretaker Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Council, Dare Michael, and his three aides were taken.
While the chairman was released due to ill health, the aides and the two students remain in captivity. The kidnappers initially demanded N100 million for the chairman’s aides but have now reduced the ransom to N50 million for the students.
A distraught parent, Shadrach Babalola, whose son Isaac is among the captives, described the ordeal as harrowing. He revealed the kidnappers’ ruthless tactics, including mocking the families’ inability to meet the ransom demand.
“Whenever we tell them we don’t have such an amount, they accuse us of not valuing our loved ones,” Babalola said.
“The last time they called, they told us to take whatever we could offer and use it to buy Maggi for soup.”
The Kogi State Police Command claims to be unaware of the students’ abduction, questioning why the parents haven’t filed a formal report. The university has also remained silent on the matter.
