Son of Community Leader Murdered in Abeokuta

Suspected cultists have killed Fatai Kehinde, the 48-year-old son of the Baale of Kuto Community in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Kehinde, who worked as a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator, was brutally attacked by his assailants on the night of Friday, August 9, 2024.

The assailants pursued Kehinde from his PoS shop inside Kuto Market to the Kuto underbridge, where they fatally attacked him. He was buried on Saturday at approximately 2 p.m.

A reliable source from the Kuto community told Punch that one of the attackers posed as a customer.

“The k!lling happened last night at about 11pm. He is popularly called Faity; he is the son of Baale of Kuto. He operates a PoS shop and was about closing for the day when his k!llers drove to his shop,” the source said.

The source continued: “One of the assailants pretended to be a customer wanting to make a withdrawal. While this distraction occurred, three other masked men emerged and shot at him. The shot did not penetrate, so he attempted to flee. However, the assailants caught up with him under the Kuto bridge and butchered him to death.”

The source also speculated that the same gang might be responsible for a recent similar killing, noting, “It’s possible that the assailants who killed Faity are the same group that murdered a barber at Isale Oja Kuto about four days ago, as they used the same SUV.”

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating: “The Command is aware of both incidents, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the killings.”
