The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) has recognized Rene Wakama of D’Tigress as the best coach of the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s Basketball tournament.
On Sunday evening, FIBA announced via their X handle: “Best coach of #Paris2024 Women’s Basketball, Rene Wakama, Nigeria.”
At 32 years old, Wakama led the Nigerian women’s basketball team to their first-ever quarterfinals appearance at the Olympics, following a notable victory over Canada with a score of 79-70.
Although the team’s journey ended with a loss to the United States, 88-74, in the quarterfinals, they achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the only African basketball team (men or women) to advance to the last 16 of the tournament.
