Four men lost their lives in a tragic incident on Saturday, August 10, after entering a soakaway pit in Umuoyala Egbu community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to reports, the soakaway pit had been cleaned the previous day. However, the property owner complained about persistent blockages, prompting one of the workers, identified only as Eke, to re-enter the pit to clear the obstruction. Tragically, Eke did not resurface.
In a desperate attempt to rescue Eke, three other men entered the soakaway pit, but they too met a similar fate. Their lifeless bodies were eventually recovered and taken to Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, where a doctor confirmed their deaths.
ASP Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident but noted that he did not yet have complete details.
