Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has condemned the practice of clergymen wearing braided hair and clergywomen sporting false eyelashes and heavy makeup. Speaking at his church’s annual convention, Adeboye declared that such trends among church workers will no longer be tolerated.
“In Yorubaland, the only men who braid hair are the priests of Sango, the god of thunder,” Adeboye noted. He emphasized that adapting to such styles is not acceptable within his mission and affirmed that this stance will remain even after his tenure.
“Take this word from me. When we find anybody among pastors, particularly female pastors, made up to look like a representative of Nollywood, we will walk her off the altar,” he added.
The 82-year-old cleric criticized the use of makeup, false nails, and other beauty enhancements, questioning their purpose.
“If God wanted to make you a bird, He would have given you false nails and false eyelashes,” he said. Adeboye encouraged those who embrace these trends to repent and adopt a more modest appearance.
He further addressed women who expose themselves, suggesting they do so out of insecurity and a desire to divert attention.
“Any woman who exposes her breasts believes she is unattractive and wants to distract attention from her face. All my daughters, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. If someone doesn’t appreciate you as you are, it is their loss,” Adeboye concluded.
