Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have abducted two Chinese expatriates, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, in the Kémta/Abule-Owu area along Onigbedu Road in Ogun State.
The abduction occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, when the victims were leaving their company to visit friends.
A police source, who spoke anonymously to Punch, revealed that Wenguang and Ding were associated with the Good One Carton Company in the area.
The source noted that the expatriates left the company without informing any security personnel, including the police and military assigned to protect them, or notifying the company itself. They had mentioned to a few individuals that they were heading to Kémta Village, about a kilometer away, to visit friends.
On Monday, state police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the abduction and reported that the kidnappers had contacted the company to demand a ransom.
“The company’s security supervisor reported that one of the expatriates called to inform him that Wenguang and Ding had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding money in exchange for their release,” Odutola said.
She added that security operatives from the Ewekoro Division, supported by local vigilantes, military personnel from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, local hunters, and other security groups, conducted an extensive search of the Kémta Village forest but did not find the victims. Efforts to secure their release are ongoing.
