Enugu Police Arrest Streetlight Vandal, Remanded in Custody

The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended Aliyu Saad, a suspect accused of uprooting and stealing a streetlight pole in the New Artisan area of Enugu State.

According to a statement from DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, Saad was arrested on August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m. by officers from the New Haven Division.

On August 13, 2024, Saad was arraigned before the Enugu North Magistrate Court and subsequently remanded in the Correctional Custodial Centre Enugu, pending further hearings.

The statement from DSP Ndukwe reads: “One Aliyu Saad ‘m’, arrested on August 8, 2024, around 4:30 a.m., by the Enugu State Police Command Operatives, serving in the New Haven Division, was today, August 13, 2024, arraigned in the Enugu North Magistrate Court and remanded in the Correctional Custodial Centre Enugu, pending further hearing.”

The arrest followed a quick response by the police to credible information about the theft. This operation is part of a larger initiative directed by Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, aimed at cracking down on criminal activities, particularly those involving vandalism of public infrastructure.

In his statement, CP Uzuegbu emphasized: “The CP charges the operatives to sustain the tempo, urging citizens of the State to continue to be law-abiding, vigilant, and promptly report criminals and their activities to the nearest Police Station.
