Unknown gunmen have assassinated Mallam Hassan Yahaya Egwa, a senior official of the NG-CARES program, in Nasarawa State.
Egwa was shot dead at his new residence in the Angwan Mai Matasa area of Lafia metropolis on Wednesday night, August 14, 2024. He will be buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.
An outpouring of grief has followed the news of his death, with friends and colleagues taking to Facebook to mourn the loss.
The NG-CARES program is a federal government initiative aimed at providing relief to vulnerable Nigerians impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
