Immigration Officer Killed in Niger Land Dispute

Irate youths from Kupafu community in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State have allegedly killed an Immigration officer, Isah Mohammed, during a land dispute with the Doko community.

Mohammed, a native of Zhitsu Babi area in Doko, was fatally attacked on his farmland on Wednesday. The incident was triggered by a long-standing land dispute between the two communities, which has persisted despite efforts by traditional and law enforcement authorities to resolve it.

According to reports, the victim was rushed to Umaru Sanda General Hospital in Bida where he was pronounced dead. The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.

Spokesperson for the command, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that police operatives arrived at the scene promptly but the assailants had fled.

He said: “On 14/8/2024 at about 1130hrs, it was reported at Doko Div that one Isah Mohammed of Zhitsu Babi area of Doko was attacked in the farm by some suspected irate youths of Kupafu village over a lingering farmland tussle.

“The victim was attacked and became unconscious, police operatives from Doko Div rushed to the scene but the miscreants had fled.

“The victim was taken to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital, Bida, where he was confirmed dead. However, investigation has commenced into the unfortunate incident to arrest the perpetrators of the act and ensure that justice is served.”
