A 26-year-old medical student, Emmanuel Nwaorie, tragically passed away on Thursday, August 14, after collapsing while studying with classmates at the University of Maiduguri.
According to a social media post by a Nigerian doctor, Nwaorie, an orphan, suddenly slumped while in the company of his coursemates. Despite being rushed to the university clinic, he reportedly received minimal assistance from the nurse on duty.
Fellow students described Nwaorie’s condition as a hypertensive emergency. He was subsequently transferred to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where he allegedly faced further delays due to a lack of available beds. Hours later, he was pronounced dead.
