20 Medical Students Abducted by Gunmen in Benue State

Gunmen have abducted 20 medical and dental students in Benue State. The victims, who are students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when they were ambushed by gunmen around the Otukpo area of the state on Thursday evening.

Catherine Anene, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday morning, raising concerns about the safety of the abducted students.

The names of the 20 abducted students, along with a House Officer, have been released. They are:

Boniface Tizhe, Thomas Yahaya, Gabriel Jita Iwev, Boniface Okon, Dondo Fabian, John Bitrus Naga, Fortune Chima Umeh, Godwin Gregory Tumba, Monica Ejembi, Ogbonna George Chukwuebuka, Paul Nyampa Zira, Lawrence Victory Adaugo, Okopi Peter, Enger Benedicta, Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley, Paul Shantong, Victoria Cornelius, Pius Samson, Okan Adara, and Dr. Luis Mmbamonyeukwu, a House Officer.

SaharaReporters has not yet been able to determine if the driver of the vehicle transporting the students is among those listed.
