Former Chief Registrar of the Borno Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar, along with his wife and their two daughters, tragically lost their lives in a fire at their residence on Damboa Road in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, August 18, 2024, and is believed to have been caused by an electrical surge. A family source confirmed that the fire claimed the lives of the entire family.


A friend of Abubakar shared the news on Facebook, describing him as a “very humble” and “down-to-earth” individual. The friend also noted that Abubakar had recently retired from his role as Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and had been working with a private borehole drilling company.
The friend posted on Facebook: “The deceased retired as a Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and later worked with a private borehole drilling company.
“Not long a go we spoke extensively on contemporary issues and assured him that I would visit him in his new house whenever I happen to be in Maiduguri. Not knowing that was the last time I would hear his voice. Allahu Akbar
“A very humble and down to earth personality is gone along with cherished members of his immediate family. They had since been buried in Maiduguri today. May Allah (swt) admit them into Aljannah Firdausih.”
Other family and friends mourned the deceased family members.
