INEC Commissioner Slumps and Dies After Abuja Meeting

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye, has unexpectedly passed away. According to a source within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ijalaye collapsed and died on Monday evening, August 19, shortly after attending a crucial meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting, chaired by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, focused on the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as discussions on vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies. Ijalaye was reportedly active and in good spirits during the meeting before the tragic incident occurred in his hotel room.

While the official announcement of Ijalaye’s death is yet to be made by INEC or his family, the news has sent shockwaves through the electoral body. An indigene of Ondo State, Ijalaye was known for his dedication to his role.
