A man and his child narrowly escaped death when a tree fell on their car in the Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State. The incident occurred on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Eta Agbor by Akim.
Eyewitnesses reported that strong winds uprooted the tree, causing it to crash onto the vehicle and significantly damage the bonnet. Fortunately, the occupants of the car were unharmed.
Witnesses have called on the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) to address the issue of aging trees along the road to prevent future incidents.
One witness said: “It was a close call. If the tree had fallen a few seconds earlier, it would have been disastrous. We urge CUDA to take responsibility and ensure our roads are safe.”
