Four policemen were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening, August 18, 2024. The incident took place at the Four Corner Junction in Ozalla, Nkanu Local Government Area, Enugu.
According to reports, the officers were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation when they came under fire from the assailants. A video circulating on social media shows the body of one of the slain officers lying on the expressway, with a burnt-out police patrol vehicle nearby.
Former Information Minister, Dr. Frank Nweke Jr., condemned the attack in a statement on X. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the Enugu Police Command, calling the killings a “brutal” act against officers performing their duty to protect citizens.
Nweke described the incident as a “terrorist attack” targeting policemen at a checkpoint along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Nweke Jr wrote in a statement on X.: “Earlier today, the Ozalla community in Nkanu West LGA, Enugu, experienced the terror of so-called unknown gunmen who attacked policemen on checkpoint duty at the Four Corner Junction along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. Their patrol vehicle was also destroyed by fire.
“I extend my condolences to the families of the deceased and the men and officers of the Enugu Police Command. It is unacceptable for anyone to die in such a brutal manner while simply performing their duty to protect citizens and maintain public order.”
