A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a violent incident on Barnard Road in Gorton, Manchester, England, which led to the death of a 43-year-old woman and left two others with life-threatening injuries.
The deceased, identified locally as Alberta Obinim, was found fatally stabbed at the scene around 23:20 BST on Sunday. The attack also resulted in a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man sustaining serious stab wounds. Both individuals were taken to the hospital, where their conditions are currently deemed life-threatening.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the suspect, who is known to the victims, is being held in custody for questioning.
Barnard Road has been closed off as officers conduct their investigation behind a police cordon. Three forensic tents have been set up at various locations: one in a garden, another in the road, and a third at a nearby property. Plain-clothed officers have been seen canvassing the area, while others in white overalls and protective gear have been working at the scene.
Residents within the cordoned area reported the chaos of the situation. One individual told BBC News that they woke up to hear a “lot of screaming and noises,” while another remarked on the surprising extent of the police presence in what is typically a “nice, quiet” neighborhood.
