Three individuals, including a serving police officer, have been arrested in connection with a daring highway robbery that occurred in Kibwezi, Makueni County, Kenya. The suspects are accused of hijacking a lorry carrying 522 bags of rice on its journey from Mombasa to Nairobi.
The incident took place in the Thange area along the highway, where the Isuzu lorry with registration number KCY 107U was intercepted by six armed men. The robbers, who took control of the vehicle and its valuable cargo, were believed to have used a Probox vehicle with registration number KDD 396T to facilitate their escape.
Following an intensive investigation by the Kibwezi Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), authorities apprehended Francis Mutiso, a police officer based at the Kibwezi Police Station. Mutiso, who was allegedly in full uniform and armed during the robbery, was arrested along with two other suspects identified as Juda Kipkoech Kandie and John Maingi.

The stolen lorry, loaded with 25-kilogram bags of rice, was eventually recovered in the Manyanga area, not far from Kibwezi. The lorry’s driver, who was found unharmed in the Ngwata area, reported that he had been abandoned by the robbers after the hijacking.
