A tragic boat accident on the River Benue has claimed the lives of four women in the Mayo Ranewo area of Ardo-Kola Local Government Council.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, a year after similar tragedies struck the same waterway.
The ill-fated boat, carrying over 30 passengers, was traveling from Mayo Ranewo to Belango in Karim-Lamido Local Government Council when it encountered difficulties. While the majority of passengers managed to survive, the four women were unable to be rescued.
The deputy spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, James Lashen, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that they were awaiting further details.
“We are aware of the incident, but we are waiting for full details. You will be updated once that is done,” he said.
