Indian police have arrested a Nigerian woman for allegedly smuggling and supplying psychotropic substances into the country. The accused, identified as Faith Racheal, was apprehended on August 14, 2024, in the Mehrauli area of Delhi.
According to a statement released by the police on Thursday, August 22, authorities recovered 3.87 kilograms of Mescaline, a powerful hallucinogenic drug valued at approximately Rs 15 crore in the international market. The drug was concealed within the packaging of branded toffees and fish food.
Mescaline, a naturally occurring psychedelic substance derived from the Mexican Peyote cactus and the San Pedro cactus found in Peru and Ecuador, can be consumed in powder, tablet, capsule, or liquid form. It is known for its potent hallucinogenic effects, similar to LSD and Psilocybin (magic mushroom).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (special cell) Amit Kaushik stated that the raid on Mehrauli was conducted following a tip-off, leading to the arrest of Racheal and the seizure of the concealed Mescaline.
Racheal, who arrived in India in August 2022 on a medical visa, overstayed in the country after her visa expired. She subsequently became involved in the narcotics trade, connecting with a Nigerian national and engaging in the smuggling of illicit substances.
The accused is believed to have been part of a narcotics drug cartel, acting as a courier to transport consignments of drugs from one location to another, facilitated by her associate based in Nigeria.
