Bandits Abduct Kaduna District Head, Daughter, and Seven Others in Night Attack

Bandits have abducted the district head of Garu Kurama, Mr. Yakubu Jadi, his daughter, a Catholic catechist, and five other members of the Gurzan Kurama community in Kaduna State.

The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU), led by Engr. Tabara S.K, condemned the abduction, which occurred on Friday night, August 23, 2024. In a statement issued on Saturday, August 24, the forum’s Public Relations Officer, Josiah Yusuf, identified the kidnapped individuals as Mr. Yakubu Jadi (District Head), Mr. Iliya Yakubu, Mr. Nehemiah Tanko (pictured), Mr. Thomas Tanko, Mr. Jadi’s daughter, and the Catholic catechist of the community.

SOKAPU described the incident as unfortunate, alarming, and worrisome. The statement read: “SOKAPU is calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to put in their very best effort to ensure the quick and safe release of the district head, Mr. Yakubu Jadi, and the six others.”

It further noted, “The trauma being experienced by the victims, their families, and the entire community can only be imagined. The Union is calling on governments at all levels to enhance efforts in protecting the lives and property of its citizens.”

SOKAPU also urged all communities to be more organized and vigilant against unusual faces and movements in their areas, and to report such observations to the appropriate authorities. The Union emphasized that insecurity must not be allowed to escalate.
