Adejuwon Soyinka, a Regional Editor at The Conversation Africa and former BBC Pidgin Editor, was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) upon his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos early Sunday morning, August 25, 2024.

Soyinka was taken to the DSS office in Ikoyi for questioning. However, he was released later that day. A source close to the journalist confirmed his release to Channels Television but noted that his travel passport was confiscated.
