A 13-year-old Fulani girl was reportedly raped to death by local miners in the Tipper Garage area of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ibrahim Ciroma, the council’s Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the incident to the Daily Trust on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
According to Ciroma, the girl, who had gone to sell milk on Thursday, was declared missing. Her lifeless body was discovered at the Tipper Garage area on Friday.
The girl’s private parts were found stained with blood, and medical examination confirmed that she had been raped.
The incident has been reported to the police, and seven suspects believed to be involved in the crime have been arrested.
The incident nearly escalated into a crisis as herders mobilized to the area with the intention of attacking the miners. However, the swift intervention of security agents prevented further violence.
The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that seven suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime.
