ASUU Meeting with FG Postponed

The proposed meeting between the Federal Government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) scheduled for today, August 26, has been postponed.

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the postponement of the meeting, which was intended to prevent another ASUU strike, as announced by the Minister of Education.

The meeting is now expected to take place on Wednesday, August 28. No official reason has been provided for the postponement.

This development comes after ASUU leaders issued a threat to embark on a nationwide strike due to the Federal Government’s reluctance to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement.

The decision to issue the strike notice was reached during the union’s national executive council meeting held at the University of Ibadan the previous weekend.

ASUU’s demands include addressing welfare matters, ensuring adequate funding for universities, and halting the proliferation of universities across the country.
