The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled two separate bandit attacks and rescued five kidnapped victims.
According to a statement released on Monday, August 26, by the command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, two bandits were neutralized during the operations.
The first incident occurred on Sunday, August 25, when bandits attacked Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area (LGA). As stated in the statement: “On August 25, 2024, at about 1000 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five (5) people.”

Swiftly responding to the distress call, police operatives were deployed to the scene. Upon noticing the police presence, the bandits opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Despite facing heavy fire, the police managed to rescue all five kidnapped victims unharmed. The superior firepower of the operatives forced the assailants to retreat, leaving behind two dead.
The second attack took place later that day, around 5:40 PM, in Marabar Kankara village, also in Malumfashi LGA. A group of twelve bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, launched an attack on the village, taking advantage of a heavy downpour.
The Malumfashi Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilized security operatives to the scene, who engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The prompt response of the police foiled the attack.
Following the confrontation, the bodies of two neutralized bandits were found. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects and commence investigations.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, praised the exceptional bravery displayed by the police operatives and reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state.
