A 45-year-old man named Aramide Tito was arraigned in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 26, 2024, for allegedly starving and assaulting his 11-year-old stepson.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, faces charges of indecent deal, assault, and attempted murder. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, informed the court that the defendant committed the offenses on August 17 at approximately 11:00 PM in the Oke Ogbe Area, Atura, Badagry, Lagos.
Okuoimose alleged that the defendant unlawfully beat up and starved his stepson for three days. He further accused the defendant of pouring hot water on the boy while he was sleeping, attempting to murder him.
The prosecutor stated that the offenses violated Sections 135, 245, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Mr. A J Aina granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Each surety was required to be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned until September 25 for a hearing.
